1. Buy Your Supplies
- Iron Shelf Bracket
- Whitewood Board (1-in x 10-in x 6-ft) – I think the 1 in. thick wood likes more professional than something thicker. When picking your wood, be sure to check for warping.
- Desired Stain (I used Minwax Wood Finish Penetrating Stain – Special Walnut 224)

2. Cut the Wood to Desired Length
I wanted our shelves to be a little longer than the wine rack, so we cut them to 62 inches each.
3. Stain the Wood
4. Measure and Level the Brackets
I put the wood on the floor and placed the brackets on top of the wood to get an idea of where we wanted them positioned. I placed them a foot and a half in from the end of the wood.
I used some tape to measure the distance between the brackets and placed it on the wall. After leveling the tape, we screwed the brackets into the wall.
5. Attach the Wood
The key to attaching the wood to the brackets is to make sure the screws are long enough to hold the shelf to the brackets, but not so long they go through the shelf.
4. Decorate!
I filled the shelves with mostly white but accent with COPPER! Gosh do I love copper! I feel like it is the perfect mixture of neutral, sophistication, and really made the shelves look finished. Links to the decor on the shelves below.
