DIY Winter Mesh Wreath

I probably should have posted this blog at the beginning of January, but due to the crazy Tennessee weather we have been having all month (some days have been sunny and 70!) I haven’t really been in the mood to post a winter wreath!! What better time to post it than on this cold winter morning! So start up a warm fire, put some big comfy socks on, and let the creativity flow!

I don’t know about you, but I never have anything to hang on my door in the time between Christmas and spring. I decided I wanted to make a winter mesh wreath to fill in that gap! Because they were having a HUGE sale, I ordered most of the supplies from an online store, Craft Outlet.

Supplies:

• 1 Wreath Frame with Twist Ties (I wanted a larger wreath so I got the 20” wreath frame)
• 2 Rolls of Mesh
• Light Weight Decor (that can either be tied or hot glued onto the wreath)

How To:

If you have never made a mesh wreath before, the important thing to know is, they are very hard to mess up! If you don’t like how it turns out, simply untwist what you don’t like and try again! A mesh wreath just take some creativity and a little patience.

Now let’s get started!

Step 1

I purchased a white wreath frame to match the white winter theme I was going for. Typically the wreath frames with the twist ties already in place are a lot more expensive than the normal wreath frames, but there was a big sale going on so I splurged! If you do not find a sale on these, you can also choose a normal wreath frame and use pipe cleaners as the ties.

Step 2

Roll out your mesh. I chose the 21″ Snowball Deco Mesh: Iridescent White (10 Yards) from Craft Outlet because I loved the texture and variety in the mesh.

Step 3

The wreath frames with twist ties come with two circles of ties. I like to switch from the inside circle to the outside circle (this is a personal preference).

To start, place one end of the mesh into one of the outer twist ties (it doesn’t matter which one) and double twist the twist ties so the end does not stick out too far (you don’t want this to show when you have your finished product).

Step 4

Like I said before, I wanted this to be a large, fluffy wreath, I measured about 12 inches of mesh and moved to the next twist tie, but on the inner circle. Pinch the mesh together at 12 inches and double twist it into place!

Step 5

I continued this all the way around the wreath. Once I reached where I had started, I continued with a second layer of mesh in the twist ties that were not yet filled. When I ran out of the first mesh roll, I began the second roll where I left off.

Step 6

When I finished the second layer, I had a good amount of mesh left over. As I looked at the wreath, it wasn’t as fluffy as I would have liked it to be, so I filled in some of the gaps with the leftover mesh, by securing the mesh in the remaining space on the twist ties. The fullness of your wreath is completely up to you, so just play with the amount of mesh you want!

And ta-da! You made a wreath!

Step 7

Now it’s time to decorate!!

I broke apart 2 30″ White Glitter Snowflake Spray: White from Craft Outlet to spread throughout the wreath. The placement is completely up to you, but I tend to look for gaps or places you can see the twist ties.

I also added 3 snow textured foam balls to give the wreath some dimension. I got these from a local boutique after Christmas.

**Note: Most places that carry Christmas decorations will put them on sale after the holidays! This is a great time to look for items like these foam balls!

All of my decor items could be tied or twisted onto the wreath, but if that is not the case for you, I recommend a hot glue gun to hold your decor items in place. Now your wreath is ready to hang on your door!

Now that you have seen how easy the process of making your own mesh wreath is, you can make one for every holiday and season!!
